CABIN FEVER {rustic glam}

I always loved the kind of glam which mixed up a bunch of vintage references...Janis Joplin's wild paisleys and beads, Led Zeppelin's weird, Middle-Earth velvets and bluesy sounds. Probably, if I had to pick a style and stick with it, for the rest of time, that would be it. And, after a total dearth in this style within the past decade, I'm so happy to see it back with a vengeance.

It's kind of a cross between an art deco and an art nouveau, with a little bit of the woods thrown in. Anyway, Each of these picks has that kind of native glam which I so adore.

Once again, very busy today, and so I must head into the fray, but I hope you all have wonderful weekends...full of rest, relaxation, and respite. Yrs., Sus

YOURS, INFORMALLY {slouch, contour and color}

Maybe this post is a response to how slouchy and exhausted I myself am feeling lately because I have been so, so busy (hence the lack of a post yesterday)...but, there is just something about the wonderful shapes of each of these items.

I love it when a material can be itself...and I also love it when a material gets celebrated. Through tailoring, contour, color, and sheer inventiveness, each of these seems to resonate and feel a little more lively than the usual suspects.

GETTING WARMER {comforting colors}

I like rust tones and golden greens, rich textures and woodsy glows. And well, I'm just really not ready to make a hard transition into the bright coldness of the new year quite yet. So, I want to relish the end of the year...think back and nestle in for just a little while. Even if my workload says that's not possible, I'm making it a priority to do something savory today...maybe a nice cup of chai. Or, just a 15 minute nap under a very warm blanket.

WAYS AND MEANS {Carl Kleiner}

Happy Monday!

I really like the ways Carl Kleiner finds to show us something new in the everyday. My personal favorites are his shots of lace and the wonderful geometry and textures of his paper collage pieces. Anyway, I simply could not decide which one to post here today-- so, why not both? Somehow, these inspire several different sides of me at once...and I guess that's the point.

AND FURTHERMORE

As I said yesterday, my obsession with metal edged tags is severe, intense, and all consuming! I just wanted to share a few, better photos of product paired with the freebie tags. My favorite spot for them is with the ringlet jotters, where they act kind of like little earrings..but they look cool wherever they go. Personally, if I found this in my stocking, I would be pretty pleased-- not to mention immediately curious about the wonderful, kind, brilliant, successful and breathtakingly beautiful designer who made it. ; ) haha.

Topping IT OFF {free peekaboo gift tags}

So, I've been keeping a huge, all-consuming obsession with metal-edged tags under wraps for about a year and a half now.

And, I'll be including one patterned or worded peekaboo gift tag for every single item ordered from the susyjack shop until December 25th. They can tie on just about anywhere, and add a really cool industrial meets crafty touch wherever they go. Just flip over the top layer and write the recipient's name right inside. It's a fun take on the typical, fold-over gift tag, which I like quite a bit.

I hope to make these a permanent fixture after the Holidays in 2009-- with multiple words and patterns, because they're just too darned cute, and as usual...can serve multiple purposes in fun ways. I hope you think so, too!

Tis A gift to be simple {wood, wool and wonder}

Hello! Just popping in for a second with some items I've noticed lately which I think would make really nice, thoughtful and useful gifts.

I was inspired to do this post by this artwork by Tsilli... which my Dad sent me so I could have a look (thanks, Dad!). My Dad is an engineer, and very good at building things and although I am an artist, I always thought we shared the same enjoyment in well-planned, sturdily built things with simple beauty.

There's something so great about materials that are forgiving...they get used, worn...played with...and they just keep on going. Getting better, changing, and just plain bringing joy. And along those lines, here are a few friendly items I thought had this quality in their design and materials:

FRIENDS & LOVERS {leanne shapton}

Hello Duckies! I hope you all had wonderful weekends, full of cranberry sauce and stuffing. I spent a chilly but very fun few days down in Bryant Park at the Mixed Co. booth, where I had the pleasure of meeting several very wonderful people from here in NYC and also elsewhere. What a treat to be able to chat with customers. Thank you to all who came by and made my weekend a bit warmer!

If you are in need of a whimsical holiday respite, click on over to this site. I am just smitten with the work of Leanne Shapton; a woman of diverse talents and a unique, clever and observant perspective on city life. There is just something about her illustrations which I find so.... well.... New York.  Which makes sense, since she is a resident of this fine city.

I was immediately drawn to her wooden books-- seen at top...literary favorites on slabs of wood...so, I guess they are 'faux livres'. They were featured in the New York Times Style section this weekend (apt since Leanne is the Art Director of the Op Ed section at NYT). There are a variety of titles on view at her site, and for purchase at John Derian. My personal favorites-- her illustrations and paintings. I adore this Chanel study-- and would love a giant, poster version for my apartment, and I love the thought of Leanne doing one of these after a walk through Central Park or a crowded downtown street. Not to mention the spreads from Was She Pretty?, a book about sex, jealousy, and past relationships by the artist. So true.
