GREY GARDENS { paint colors }

It's pretty rare for me to see interior design that I would actually want to live in... but this did the trick. Normally, when I see pictures of people's perfectly decorated places, it makes me want to run screaming into the woods, and live in a tarp-covered hole. It just seems unachievable.

I'm really not good at decorating, and despite writing a blog, I'm kind of not into decorating. I guess that's why I post so much about fashion, here, and very little about furniture.

However, I do really admire people who know how to make a space work...and for me, this interior works really well. I love the unexpected use of ubiquitous grey paint...and the meaning it gives to the pops of color in the space. I also love the street-punk asthetic that it brings in in such an unironic, livable way.

CONSTELLATION PRIZE + NEWS {rapz, shoplive}

Just a quick post today...I am pretty busy, and, before I get to procrastinating, it's time to get into gear! Vroom.
Anyway, not to beat you over the head with jewelry posts-- I know I've been pretty heavy on the adornments this week...but I just thought these product photos were really pretty...I like the way they soften the look of the materials used...the spiral shapes are really evocative.

A nice reminder of what styling can do...even if there are not many props handy!

Hi Everybody! Hope you're all feeling fine this morning. I, unfortunately, am feeling a little lack-luster today. Perhaps it's the gray weather we're having here in NYC, or, maybe it's that the stationery show is over, and this is always a weird time where I realize my adrenaline has left, that I have lots of administrative work to do, and generally, feel wiped out from the huge amount of effort that goes into being a sole proprietor and trying to move a business forward.

I guess there's always a silver lining...even when days are cloudy. That's what inspired me to pick out these items. I particularly like the feminine touches that each of them have, but in unconventional ways-- of course, with a bit of an edge....Studs, Facets, Tangles...oversized metal chunks. Right on! And of course, billowy shapes in all the right places.

Gettin' Bibby With it {necklaces}

Two things happened this weekend that I NEVER thought would. The first involves-- and please sign here ____________ to indicate that you will continue reading Hey even if I tell you this.... these. The second, which I am going into greater detail about above, involves actually liking something in the window of a Banana Republic! Normally, they are too upright for me.

Taking cues from trend-forward jewelry and accessory designers like Michelle Jank and Marni, BR has actually got a couple of really gorgeous bib necklaces in their summer lineup. Personally, the neutral one with the smoky faceted cabochons gets my vote- while I like *looking* at candy colors, I tend to think they look garish on. Especially here in NYC, where everything competes for attention.

GAM I AM {bebaroque}

Delft Legs! What could be better? I don't know...maybe flowy, engraved bows on my ankles?

I love the collection of tights at bebaroque, a Scottish brand which prints and embroiders it's own designs on gorgeous, opaque stockings. Personally, some of my favorte tights are the ones with only one leg designed, which have a nice asymetrical, draped ornamental look.

Also, their new designs which have actual embellishments sewn onto the tights (ribbon, fringe)  are very cool, and definitely fun to look at. I can see wearing them with an understated dress, or even under a great pair of dressy shorts with a tweed, boy-style  blazer.

Honored { Anna Bond of Rifle }

Yaaay, everybody!! I'm back to my normal posting schedule...hurrah! No more days spent at the Javits...watching my feet balloon through my shoes, lunching on unsatisfying, overpriced empanadas, and wondering if I'm allergic to cheap carpet.

So, here's something of note...Anna from Rifle stopped by and she is wonderful... (and also has the best eye makeup). Anna, if you're reading this, I totally know your work, and didn't make the connection when you were in my booth...I am like a deer in the headlights sometimes! If I had known it was you, I would have probably jumped around all excited and crashed my booth.

Anyhow, readers, if you'd like a sweet, interesting treat today, check out her site and blog-- here's what I love about all of it: The signature style which is present in every piece...the art direction of the photos which accents the asthetic Anna works with, and, on her blog, the wonderful mixture of design, illustration, and technical aspects, like packaging and printing. As promised... {booth pics}

Hello all,

Well, here I am on day 3 of the National Stationery Show..and it is late, and I am tired beyond tired. I will definitely be posting more about the show, and what it was like for SusyJack* this year, very soon...because it was quite a bit smaller, and so definitely different. But, for me, it's been a better year than last, and a success...the small changes I've made to the line have really helped bring in some new interest from new directions, and I am really pleased to be able to say that. I worked really hard...not necessarily on new designs, but on the back end of things, and I am glad for that.

Also, I have had the chance to meet some wonderful HS readers in person...which always makes my day. I have completely enjoyed the opportunity to get out there and socialize...something I don't get to do enough while I'm in here working!

I wanted to share a few images of the booth-- most of these were taken on Saturday Night-- before the show opened...and this is pretty much what it looked like. This year, I avoided the walls completely and mainly used tables (putting up shelves stresses me out). I also printed catalogs which are on the front table for all to see.

All right...I'm off to bed. Even though it's not even 9 PM!  kissums.

Hello Everyone!

A huge, huge thank you to all who  have stopped by in the past couple of weeks. My posting schedule has been way off...and while I do feel guilty, I'm pretty sure the time off was well-spent, because all the stuff for the stationery show is almost ready, and honestly, I think SusyJack* Contemporary Paper is looking pretty darned good!

Anyway, a little peek onto my desk. There really has not been much in my sightlines *other* than my desk, lately.

I'll be bringing my camera along to NSS with me, so I hope to take some pictures of booth progress- while I know many of you read this blog for the shopping/style tips...I believe I also have some readers who are Paper Peeps....so, the next several posts will be devoted to that. If you have any questions about NSS...or anything I've posted about it, just leave them in comments, and I hope I can provide some helpful info for you.

BACKLASH { at cibone }

I like things that are different. I like things that are not necessarily 'Pretty' because, really, being striking and smart is a lot harder than being pretty. Pretty...it's easy.

And while some of the items up here are really all about looking good...others are about making you laugh, making you think, and making it take just a little bit more effort to see their beauty, without depending on irony or being too cloying.

There's something I like so much about objects, designers...who ask a little more of me...because I have it to give. And giving it feels better than just sitting there batting my eyelashes.

IT IS A BIG WORLD { inspirations }

Hi Everybody... wow. What a crazy week I have had. Basically, printing up the new catalog, getting a new product postcard out, ordering all the stuff for my NSS booth, and polishing up the final packaging elements which I'll be debuting next week.

Anyway, aside from the normal, shopping-type tone of this blog...actually, I shop very, very little... I wanted to post a couple of images which I've been thinking about since I first saw them. It's pretty amazing how big this world is, and how much variety it contains. Sometimes, living on Manhattan can make you forget and remember that at the same time.

These were taken by my friend Jessica ...who also took the photo of me with the tophat in the subway which I posted a couple of weeks ago. She has a very special sense of humor, and it comes through in the titles and images she takes.
