While most days, I try and do what other people are not doing here on HEY, today I'm going to join the many, many people reacting to the death of Lee McQueen, the creative force behind the Alexander McQueen brand.
The one thing I would like to note about McQueen is how his garments truly explored and expressed the complexities of modern, urban, womanhood. At times an armature, at times an exoskeleton, there has always been a vigorous statement and powerful substance in McQueen creations. For me as a person, and as a woman, his clothing-- while fantastic and edgy-- always felt like it came from a place I could understand in reality, and aspire to in my dreams.
I always have felt that McQueen understood not only the female form, but it's context, it's demands, it's battles, it's mysteries, and most compellingly– it's victories.
