I really never thought about it, but the blue in a ballpoint pen, which we are so used to seeing, is very close to the blue in Delft porcelain. I love the idea of re-purposing the ballpoint look, but still seeing that signature (pardon pun), hand-drawn, chicken-scratchy, look.
I would LOVE to see a series of delft vases or plates done with faux-ballpoint pen, or faux-tapestry fabric done in this finish. I would also love to see wallpaper that was ornate, but looked like it was drawn with a blue ballpoint. Ironic, pretty, and clever.
Yes, these fans are drawn with a ballpoint pen
This portrait too
And not sure about this necktie, but it was close enough
This dress definitely doesn't care where the margins are!
PS The image that inspired this trendspotting post can be found here - but I thought it was kind of hard to see just what this was...
Very cool! Love the dress.

As it is said, if you are talented you can do miracles even with the humblest of means! Fantastic fan!

Yes, you are so right. Something that I will definitely think about next time I am designing... If I can make it work with less, maybe that is actually better! : )

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. I am going to have to find more good examples of ballpoint writing/textile/surface design... going to keep my eyes open! : )

Love these, Susy! The illustrations on those fans are so great, and so is that portrait. I love the crisp lines of the pen combined with the soft wash of watercolor in the background. I'm also a big fan of Chakra Pennywhistle and love her money bag pillows. Thanks for another inspiring post :)
P.S. How did the trade shows go?? I know you just had a couple.
