Many times when I think pastels, I think pink, purple, gray, peach. Shortly followed by ...meh.
But I'd rather think platinum, smoke, sunrise, and palest green... you?

I fell in love with this new series of illustrations by Anna See on sight. Maybe you had seen them before, but I hadn't. Such inspiration.

Hello hello - good weekends? I hope so. I had a pretty good weekend myself.
I thought this photo was really beautiful. I love the height of the crown, and the quiet expression of the model, and a dose of eye candy on a Monday Morning never hurts.
I thought these abstract, simple collages were a nice send-off for the weekend, and made a nice accent to this morning's post.
These pieces feel so positive, without being overly cutesy or contrite. The idea of sitting down and creating a composition with just a few materials and colors has always been something I was drawn to. And I thought this sweet little shop, Neon and Neutral, had a lot of good ideas, simply expressed.

Both of these caught my eye. I like the treatment of the inside of this cardigan up top...and I like the generous blouse of the sleeve the straight bottom. It's a nice combination.
But I especially like the modern take on ermine on the lower style.

Good morning, everyone. I am only going to post this one thing today... and I hope it will do for you what it did for me...
Anyway, when I am working, I am often tuned into podcasts, and yesterday, I listened to one on Oscar Wilde. I was really struck by a description of his grave, an image of which appears above, and when the podcast was over, I immediately looked up some photos of it on the web.
Also, last night, I watched a PBS Skip Gates documentary called "Looking for Lincoln", which examined various dimensions and results of Abraham Lincoln's life, times, and decisions. It was fascinating. Recently I've done some reading on Lincoln, and this documentary really made me think about not just being a 'product of one's time' ...but about the idea of legacy, and how legacy is not something one can ever truly own. It is more complicated - more dimensional - than a commodity.
For some reason, Looking for Lincoln and this image from Oscar Wilde's grave seemed related, to me. The idea of time passing steadily, unstoppably, as generations reinterpret events and lives, or claim them anew, made me stop and think. And thinking deeply felt good. The layering in the above image; older marks fading even while new ones are applied... seemed like a visual representation of that. It feels really alive.

I have been collecting images of items/campaigns with lettering I like for a while now. I thought I would share some of them here!
Personally, I really love the way the handwritten letters activate these bottles of nail polish, and the way that Bobbi Brown has used hand drawn lettering to get the point across in her Pretty Powerful campaign - wish I had better images of this lovely work from Bobbi Brown, but I didn't get photos of it when it launched this spring in NYC.
Coach has some interesting type treatments in it's new Poppy line - although I'm pretty much against so much logo a go-go, stylewise it looks good.
And last but not least, the Billy Bookcase (the 140 ton MDF killer bookshelf system) by Ikea turned 30 this past year... custom edition graphics above.

My own versions (depuis 2007!) I'd say they were effective!
I thought these pieces by brokenfab were a good followup to this morning's post on false eyelashes.
While I've noticed lots of prints, art, textiles and music inspired by tribal motifs and a kind of first-world meets third-world aesthetic lately, I think something really interesting happens when those colorful ideas meet the intensely handmade craft of beadwork. This type of bead-weaving takes a lot of planning. These are just really well done.
I also love the triangular shape of these pieces. To me, the triangle is a shape that symbolizes change, direction, and energy, and I think it really serves this forceful and provocative jewelry well. I would love to see even more elements added into these pieces - gold, leather, or even industrial materials like plastic or rubber.

So, what do you all think about false eyelashes? I've never worn them. But, I like the idea of them...less as makeup and more as an accessory - like... no makeup except for false eyelashes, maybe some clear nail polish. Then a plain t-shirt, jeans, and loafers.
It's pretty amazing how many styles there are out there - and I really love the shape of them, just as objects! Personally, I prefer the ones at the very bottom.
