BAD IN A GOOD WAY

Gangster_nerd_3

This week I had a very strong urge to wear a hat. So, I did. I wore a black felt hat, similar to the houndstooth one above. And while I was sitting on the bus, it sparked an idea. I started thinking about Mike Damone of Fast Times at Ridgemont High and about Joey Jeremiah from Degrassi Jr. High...

And I started thinking about their style, and well, some images just popped into my head....and made me think about the magic that happens when you combine the Italian horn charm with a Casio Watch that plays Happy Birthday...or a retro leather jacket combined with a pair of crappy old sneakers, or the joy of writing bad rap lyrics in a notebook while hiding under an old-man hat on the subway....or running around, spraypainting weird, bad graffiti on trashcans in a pair of bright red shoes....or....making out on a pull-out sofa to Led Zepplin 3. And these are all good things.

And that, my friends, is what is inspiring me now...I'm just plain into the junior hustler/bookie look. Yeah.

Other than Sears, Office Depot, JC Penney and Service Merchandise, the only link worth mentioning for this post is The Nerd Watch Museum which is DEFINITELY worth checking out, as it lists some great photos and features of vintage digital watches....for example, the one above that will play Happy Birthday on your birthday, when programmed correctly.

AFTER MY OWN HEART

Bobbypin

Well, I loooove the jewelry at OathNYC

It follows the humorous, retro, sort of meaningless-unless-you-lived-through-a-certain-timeframe-or-belong-to-a-certain-social-layer asthetic that I am so obsessed by.

While I couldn't find a great picture of the F%ck Tab necklace, you can see a link to it HERE and also in the latest issue of Time Out New York, which mentions that it's for sale at Catbird NYC . In case you didn't know, people used to take the tabs off their cans of Coke and hang them from their shoelaces. These were called "F%ck Tabs" and they symbolized something do do with how much sex you were having, or whether you had had sex in the past month or something....or something.

Anyway!

In place of a perfect, blog-worthy image of the aforementioned, I DID find this pic of a beautiful solid gold bobbypin necklace which I like almost as much...and also, probably my other favorite, a pendant that's a solid gold spray-paint nozzle, on those sites. F%cking Awesome.
