Either I need serious mental help, or it's just the coffee talking, or it's all the cold medicine I've had in the past 3 days, but I somehow just ended up on a website for mascots. After a few (ok 30) minutes of searching, I came across this little beauty. Honestly the idea of dressing up as a giant calculator strikes me as so....GREAT!

Some find humor in seeing animals dressed as people, some find humor in people dressed as animals, but I have always had a mild obsession with people dressed as inanimate objects. But never, never did I know that it was possible to dress up as a calculator and look so damned cute. The only change that I might make to this costume is to make it solar powered....but at the same time, it's kind of cute that it's not.

They had some other really great costumes too...like a Coffee Bean, a head of Iceberg Lettuce, and a giant fried egg (another one of my favorites, actually.)

Yes, it may seem weird to post about such things, but usually, if I notice something, it begins to become a trend. So...part of spiralbound_ is to let my head wander, to note when I see something worth mentioning...for no particular reason at all. Then later, when it pops up in a piece of contemporary art, or on a T-shirt in Urban Outfitters, I can say, hey. I anticipated that trend. People dressed as calculators, I'm not sure, but hey, it spoke to me!!!

Get ready. Ok. Are you ready?

Because I have found the coolest sneakers ever. EVER! And yes, although I am a total sneaker-phile, it is commonly known that I won't wear just any funky kick that comes along. Nooo. I like my sneakers like my personality, wry, complex....cute....and expensive! haha...no, actually, one of the best pairs I have is a new pair of keds deconstructed slip-ons that I got for 30 bucks, but anyway....Onto more pressing matters...the world's coolest shoes. Feast your eyes (or feet) on these bad-boys.

I was in London a couple of months ago, and I am just kicking myself for not getting a pair....but luckily, they can be ordered online....

Such a perfect mix of English Mod, Wing-tip, Punk, New Wave, Nerd, Surf, Skate, Never there was! Plus, they are leather-- oh so durable.

The Best Hotel EVER

I love hotels. I also love contemporary art. So, when I was skimming through some back-issues of Artichoke magazine, I just couldn't help but drool all over the article about Hotel Fox.

Located in Copenhagen, Hotel Fox was originally a project funded by Volkswagon, which has recently gone on to independent ownership. Each room is designed by a different contemporary artist, designer, or interior design team, and each offers a truly unique experience.

I can definitely see staying here and never even going out to any museums. This place looks like heaven. There should be more visionary, profit-making projects like this in the world. Fun for all.

Time To Go

Ok. I'm going to start making stuff again. End of story. I've got plans for a new t-shirt design, and new jewelry and new paper goods. Hopefully, I can start up my shopping site again. I ran into a woman who had bought some of my shirts the other day, and it reminded me of how much fun that was, and what a great response I got. It's just been way too long, and my sewing machine is crying for attention.

Been doing some thinking

Is it worth it to set aside some time each week to make some art? I think so. It's strange. I haven't made art in so long, I feel like it's almost not part of my personality anymore.

When I was in Paris, I remember thinking that I couldn't live another day without painting, drawing, or working. But somehow, coming back, and getting busy with design work, I have lost sight of that. It's perhaps that I've just been working way too hard, or it could be that design, after all, is really where my heart is.

I guess I still haven't let go of my artist's ego. I sit down to draw, and it just attacks me. I miss it, though. I ought to try and regain that side of myself.

Untitled

It occurred to me the other day that I am much more comfortable lately typing than writing....I don't know why this might be, because I used to write longhand so much. Perhaps it's that I'm feeling the need for more organization? Or maybe it's because I am on the damned computer so much that I am just more used to it. I don't know. Also, I guess it could be because it's much easier for me to go back and look at a digital file than it is for me to crack open my journal. Something about the physical aspect of the journal, it just seems way too intense.

I am home sick today. Perhaps this is another reason why I am once again re-visiting spiralbound.
Anyway, rationale aside, it's probably a decent idea to get some ideas in order. Spring is coming, and think I ought to start being more productive. Break out the list-making pad and pen. Start the basketball team. Learn to speak French and consider moving to London, or worse, New York.

Oooh. I don't know. Moving to NYC. Big. Scary. Everytime I'm there I feel like a hamster. But, who knows. Who knows what the change in scale would do...to me, to my work, my life, my happiness? Who can tell.

Anyway. I'm off. Bed is calling. Temperature rising.
