This is gorgeous artwork is by the artist Emily Counts, and viewable online with several of her other pieces at Motel, one of my favorite galleries.
The drawing above is my favorite. I love how it combines a more traditional painterly/figure style with trend and fantasy. In this particular work, I think the purple really draws you in, and unlike some of the other work, this one really walks the line between fantasy and reality. It's pretty powerful.
Great shoes from Eley Kishimoto, a site I found thoroughly wonderful and chock full of information, which was referenced by the wonderful blog Nebo Peklo (which, by the way is featuring some gorgeous new prints and art by it's author Natalie).
Anyway, I love the combination of solidity and feminitnity that these shoes have. The healthy sizing of the straps and the heel and the roomy, yet not chunky toe are great to see together.Not to mention the attention to the buckle style and placement....and the careful stitching and beautiful color combinations, woven. It's interesting...somehow what's speaking to me about these particular shoes is not just the style, but also the quality...something that is sorely lacking in so many goods these days.
Eley Kishimoto also has a blog, which is cool because it's nice to see what goes into running a brand with such a wide scope.
It's official. I've started a new enterprise, which I've been working on for a while. My own brand. Schoene. ....As they say, 'from humble beginnings....'
Schoene (pronounced Shane) was inspired shortly after I began writing spiralbound_ -- and began looking more closely at my own personal style, my own asthetic, and my inspirations. And soooo....I'm proud to announce a new (albeit limited) set of paper goods for purchase on Etsy.
Those of you who have followed my blog over the past (almost!) year, will find that the look of Schoene goods follows closely to many of the trends I've identified in spiralbound_ . The items thus far are influenced mainly by my love of simple, unadorned, yet somehow nostalgic design with glamour, disco, hipster, Dada, and New-Wave styles.

....two hearts that beat as one...I need you, I need you....This bracelet makes me want to sing that song. I LOVE this bracelet. I can't stop thinking about it's big, flat, wooden hearts and amazing, industrial, clasp. This just may be...the perfect bracelet....
