Folk art always restarts my brain when I am exposed to it.
So, here is an image of a piece from a museum I went to this weekend. The piece is a quilt, so it's bed-sized. It was made by a woman named Jessie B Telfair. I thought how wonderful it would be to sleep under a quilt that said 'Freedom'. I wonder what it would do to my dreams.
You can find a link to the Folk Art Museum Here where there are pretty great views of the other, amazing works by unknown and untrained artists around America. It's always refreshing to look at folk art-- sometimes knowing something was made without training makes it much easier to enjoy.
i love this!

me too! I would love even a regular blanket that was silkscreened with the word "freedom". The folk art museum was so inspiring that way. The ideas were so pure and beautiful! tHere was none of the irony that you get in galleries....but somehow all the items seemed strangely contemporary!
