I come from an eccentric and creative family. My mom is a fantastic cook, and the three of us spend most of our time around the table, snacking and eating. One of the things I have always loved about eating at the Connor household is my mom's fun collection of plates.
We never had matching dinner settings. Our best pieces were (and still are) some of the most used. I always got a special plate, and each plate had a story. As a girl, it felt so fun and fancy to be eating of of a unique, special piece of china. "This one, I bought in Europe, before I left France. I had to have it."..."This one was a gift from a friend...there used to be three." Always a story or a joke that went along with each dish. Little, unexpected, bohemian touches of elegance and special-ness went a long way.
So, I'm posting this as a way to reminisce, but with a twist-- here are some gorgeous plates with a variety of design styles and price points. While none of them can match the dishes I grew up with, they are still so much fun to look at, and I can only imagine what it's like to eat off of them.Take a spin around the dinner table...plates above available at: Unica, Design Public, MOSS, Elsewares and Velocity
Start your own special collection...loving how these are sets of 4, it makes them feel truly special. A must see, the handmade set at top set is from a beautiful collection by New Arcadia, on view at Vivre with more available at Saks. Pricey, but totally check these out. They are absolutely lovely. And bottom, a divinely noir set of 4 L O V E plates by DL & Co which can be found at Barney's. Also quite pricey...but I couldn't help including them. They are so special and moody.
Gorgeous!! I love them and love the story that goes with them!
