Oh, I so wanted to post something *silver* after this morning's post...but these gorgeous golden pieces by Joanna Cave won out.
I love the pigment-y colors mixed with gorgeous, bright yellow golds. It feels royal.

So..I have to admit, I was a little bit stuck about what to put for the DC today. I had a few ideas... a Givenchy mini skirt, a floral chair in a pretty room...world peace, yadda yadda.
But none of them really seemed achievable just now...and the Daily Crave is about things that are not *that* far off, so I felt very conflicted about posting any of them.
Long story short, I forgot my laptop charger at the studio last night. So, around 8:30 AM I came over to Dumbo to get it. Upon getting to the building, a young lady held the door open for me. Thank you, young lady! I couldn't help but notice her hands. Now, I have noticed lots of ladies here in NYC with gray nails lately-- a matte, corpselike shade that I'm just not 100% sold on. But, *this* silver color had some life in it... a galena meets pewter color with some fairy dust mixed in.
All this noticing gave me an excuse to pay her a compliment. As we chatted in the elevator I forgot to hit my floor number and had to take the stairs back down. Any nail color that's enough to make all this happen has certainly made it's case.
Anyway...I found my color.

I came across a portrait by portrait and fashion photographer Patric Shaw on flickr the other day...and I just can't get his work out of my head. There is a really seductive combination and contrast of texture, shape and detail in his black and white work...offset by a blackness that seems to have it's own, deep gravity.

Okay, one more thing, then I promise I'll stop with the denim. But after my comment in yesterday's post about the ironic jean-pocket handbags and accessories I thought I should mention that THIS denim foray is A-OK.

While I am still up in the air about the Return of the Jean Jacket, I am loving the trend of denim bags and accessories this season... And my absolute, absolute favorite is this chevron patterned denim tote by Hayden Harnett. Brilliant! Also check out their amazing clothing which uses this textile...it crosses over very nicely. I like the summery feel and the slightly ethnic mood of this print.
There are also some really great clutch designs coming out in denim. One observation I'd like to make is that denim is one of those things that, unless it is used for jeans, can easily become a very, very tacky affair. The whole "Look, I'm a bag, but I have a jean pocket!" thing is just pedestrian at this point...a joke we've all heard about 1,000 times. And don't get me started on dresses that look like farm overalls. (Moo.) But these clutches up here, they're making good use of Trusty Denim...it's a tough fabric, that becomes a perfect, summery substitute for leather.

These square and octagonal bangle bracelets got me thinking...Even though they are angular, they seem so wearable.
I like how the use architectural detai (mini crossbeams?)l to gracefully enhance their shapes.
I promised you another rainbow. So here one is!
I find these polaroids images really wonderful, and at the same time, kind of strange. There's a kind of dreamlike dissonance in them that tells a story beyond the edges of the photos. I especially like the image at the top... it's just so darned much like being young, in so many different ways. Inexperienced, Experienced. Anyway, summer is not far off.
