This weekend, I had the opportunity to indulge myself in some fashion stalking... albeit it is well after the S/S 2011 Shows. Now I'm indulging myself again with a mini review of my favorite one, A Détacher.
The miracle of these clothes, that is so hard to pull off convincingly, is that they look mature, which is VASTLY different from looking old. The collection starts off with a few looks that I consider a nod to younger styles and styling, but blooms into a gorgeous variety of loose-yet-body conscious blouses, skirts, and dresses, in solids and bold-yet-controlled prints.
I love the harder accent of raw accessories– suggestively shaped leather belts and neckpieces– in subtly matched colors. The shoes also interest me. There was a great mix of elongating platforms paired with boldly patterned ensembles, wooden platforms paired with day dresses, and sexy strappy sandals (not platforms) paired with pantsuits.
The drape of the clothing is flattering, generous, and glamorous...the lines are light-weight, but not overly afloat. Things intensify when metallic patterns start shimmering across the various fabrics. To me, this whole collection says, in a wonderfully fluid way... "I am totally in control."
It's wonderful to see this attitude in a collection. The image of the designer, Mona Kowalska, bottom right, says it all.

Yes to everything you just said. I don't feel like this collection was designed for 21-year-olds, which is how the runways often feel. I love the purple plaid dress on the bottom left here. I'd be very interested to see it in person.
